The by-catch of a series of artist portraits is Hans Christiaan de Vries. I meet him while shooting another artist. We strike up a conversation and he shows me around the building where he manages. He is a retired artist, he says. But everything about him breathes art. In the studio of his deceased wife I am allowed to portray him. It's a beautiful combination. Both observing. In the open space where the presence of his wife can still be felt.

De bijvangst van een serie kunstenaarsportretten is Hans Christiaan de Vries. Ik ontmoet hem terwijl ik een andere kunstenaar fotografeer. We raken in gesprek en hij leidt me rond in het gebouw waar hij beheerder is. Hij is kunstenaar in ruste zegt hij. Maar alles aan hem ademt kunst. In het atelier van zijn overleden vrouw mag ik hem portretteren. Het is een mooi samenspel. Beide observerend. In de open ruimte waar de aanwezigheid van zijn vrouw nog zo voelbaar is.
